You do not need to place in a final; you only need to dance at the event. A full list of qualifiers can be found here. How many dances do I have to do at a qualifier?
In line dance you must dance all dances offered in your division for that event to be classed as a qualifying event.
In Pro-Am you may choose to dance one or more dances at an event, however a full, overall programme must be danced with the Pro you will be competing with at the World Championships

What is a dispensation?
A dispensation is where special permission is given for a competitor to use an event as a qualifier, even though they have not been able to compete. This should only be requested in cases of illness, or severe circumstances where, through no fault of their own, the competitor is unable to dance. Masters may require proof of circumstances, for example a Doctor’s note, before a dispensation can be considered. The Competitor must have registered for the event in advance of requesting a dispensation.
-
How do I apply for a dispensation?
Dancers should apply in writing to our Competition Director, Nicola Lafferty, outlining why they were unable to compete and providing any proof as necessary.

What happens if I change divisions during the year?
If you change divisions during the year, you must complete at least one qualifier (out of a minimum of 2 for Worlds) in the division in which you wish to dance at a Championship event. For example, if a Division 3 Competitor decided to move up to Division 2 after having competed in Division 3 all year, they would need to dance at least once in Division 2 before the World Championships.
-
I have a birthday during the year which means I am eligible to change divisions - can I move?
Yes you can. You can move up an age group when your age changes, or you can apply from the start of the competition year to dance in the older age group. For example, if a Young Adult competitor was 24 on 1st Sept and had a birthday in December where they turned 25, they could apply to dance in the Open division for the whole competition year, they need not wait until December. For further clarification on this, or for anyone looking for special permission to move age groups, please email Nicola Lafferty.
-
I feel there is more competition in an age category lower to mine - can I move down an age group?
In some cases, in the adult divisions only, competitors may apply to dance in a younger age division, if they feel that they will have more competition. For example, a Division 2 Silver dancer may request to dance in Division 2 Crystal as there may be more competition in that division. If permission for this is granted, dancers once moved must stay in that division for the whole competition year . For further clarification on this, or for anyone looking for special permission to move divisions, please email Nicola Lafferty.

What are the costume rules?
At Masters, we like to keep the costume rules simple. In general, for most divisions of line dance the rules are as follows:
*Strapless costumes are not allowed
* No bare midriff may be shown
* No part of the leg may be shown more than 4” above the centre of the knee
Please ensure that you read all of the relevant rules pertaining to costumes before you compete. If you have any queries about an individual costume, please send an email (along with a picture of the costume in question where possible) by filling in this form.

Can I register to dance on the day of the competition?
No. We don't allow registration for competition after 2 weeks before the event is due to take place. The main reason for this is to keep your costs low. By closing registration early we can make correct trophy, prize and certificate orders, eliminate waste and therefore keep costs the lowest they can be for the customer.
-
Why are there Late Fees for competition registration?
This answer is pretty simple - in order to keep costs to a minimum we need to do the majority of tasks before an event in optimal time. These things include making a correct trophy order, knowing how many prizes we need to supply and how many certificates need to be printed.
Our current window allows 3 weeks before a small event and 5 weeks before a major event. If we allow registrations after this time we find that we need to over-order in most areas in order to try and anticipate demand. This, in turn, will increase general costs to the customers. We apply the Late Fee after a certain date for two main reasons:
1) to try and prevent people from leaving registration until the very last minute, or event forgetting about it; and
2) to alleviate the increase in cost to the Company for over-order and additional costs.

Why do I have to pay a fee to use a Credit/Debit Card?
Paying by credit/debit card is offered as a convenience for all our customers using the online shop but unfortunately a small charge needs to be applied. While the option is convenient, World Dance Masters cannot currently afford to absorb the high fees associated with credit card processing. We considered offering PayPal but their fees are more expensive than Merchant Services. We offer free payment via Cheque or BACS. We will continue to review the costing of Merchant Services with the growth of World Dance Masters and as soon as we feel we can absorb the costs without increasing the prices for our customers, we'll do it!
